On April 29th at Paradise Valley Community College I will be playing with the Composers/Improvisers Big Band for one of our most ambitious performances to date: An improvised score to Carl Theodor Dreyer’s masterwork The Passion of Joan of Arc. A silent film of immense beauty and tragedy The Passion of Joan of Arc tells the story of Joan’s trial and martyrdom. Renee Jeanne Falconetti gives one of the most iconic and emotional performances ever set to film to give this gripping tale it’s deep and, at times, conflicting array of feelings and thoughts. Clocking in at around one hour-twenty CIBB will present an improvised score that, we hope, will add to this monumentally important (and oddly prescient) piece of silent film.
